What’s Stopping You From Working Out?

Getting yourself into the gym regularly can be a struggle. No matter how long you have been working out for, at some point you are going to need renewed motivation. Plus, there are lots of things that can keep you from making it to the gym when you intend to. Knowing what factors are making you miss out on exercise is essential for getting you back on track. Here are three common reasons that keep people from working out.

Lack of Time

This is the most common excuse that people give when they don’t go to the gym—”I didn’t have time.” And there can often be some truth to this. We live busy lives, and sometimes it can feel like there just aren’t enough hours in the day. But there is no easy solution to this. The best advice is to remind yourself that exercise is a priority, and then prioritize it. Make time for the gym, as it is one of the most important things you can do for your mental and physical health.

Fear

Another factor that keeps people out of the gym is fear. This is especially true for new exercisers that aren’t comfortable in a gym setting. Some people are afraid of being judged at the gym for not knowing what they are doing. Some men might fear that working out is a “toxic” quality. But the key to getting past these fears is to understand that they are more in your head than you realize. Most people go to the gym as an escape, where they can focus on themselves. This means most people at the gym are too focused to care about judging you. Going with a friend can also improve your confidence, if needed.

Not Knowing What to Do

This last factor is especially pertinent for inexperienced exercisers. Not knowing what to do once you are at the gym can cause stress and anxiety, and leads many people to simply avoid exercising. Luckily there are great tools online to help teach you what you need to know to start exercising. There are also many great personal trainers out there, often hired at each gym you would join, to help you learn. Many gym memberships even come with a free session or two to get you started.

Exercising regularly is one of the best things you can do for your health. But it is not always easy getting yourself to go to the gym. These three reasons are some of the most common reasons people don’t workout, but with these solutions, you can overcome obstacles and make a positive change in your life.
